Nina Garcia Thinks the Average Person Can Save Up For a Birkin Bag in a Couple of Weeks
Be right back, we’re saving our entire salaries away until the end of time so we can purchase a Birkin. Meanwhile in la-la land Marie Claire editor Nina Garcia thinks that the average American can save up for the coveted status bag in just a couple of weeks.
Recently, Marie Claire editor Nina Garcia’s thoughts have had quite the affect on the fashion-sphere. With the titles Project Runway judge and JC Penny ”Style Voice” under her belt, you’d think the fashion influencer has a grasp on what the mainstream market can and cannot afford. Her tweets recently have caused the JC Penny stock to jump, but her thoughts as of late are making us wonder if Nina Garcia has forgotten what’s it’s like to only be able to shop at budget retailers.
She recently tweeted:
“This is the bag that you can spend a few weeks’ salary on and not feel guilty. It is going to last you a lifetime. http://modaoperandi.com/heritage-auctions-special-collections/2012/accessories-708/items/”
The link continues to a Birkin bag that’s for auction on Ebay. If you’re not familiar with the infamous Birkin bag, this hefty little satchel can cost you anywhere from $14,500 to $74,500. So if we do our math correctly, to save up for a Birkin in a couple of weeks you’d have to be making at least a million dollars a year. Last time we checked, most of Nina’s followers fall in that 99% area. Looks like the possibliity of us owning a Birkin is going to have to stay in our dreams and out our arms. Thanks for the reminder, Nina.
