A new study from the United Kingdom reveals that women accept what body types they see in the media. And while this may seem obvious, it was found that if plus-sized models were used in advertising then women will find their bodies to be inspirational.
While exposure of plus-sized models in the fashion industry is rising, a new study may have some extra positive reinforcement. A study from the United Kingdom shows that what women see in the media affects their views on their own shape. Consequentially, this will boost the image and self-esteem of average and plus-sized women if they saw curvier models in the media.
During the study the more photos of thin models women were shown, the more they accepted the body type. And yet when they were shown more pictures of plus-sized models, their preferences switched. Showing that women have a wider view of beauty as opposed to the media, this can help kickstart the industry.
High fashion brands are slowly becoming more accustomed to having larger customers advertised in their clothing. Model Robin Lawley became the first plus-sized model to star in a Ralph Lauren campaign and with the addition of this study, the best is hopefully yet to come.
