Above the shoulder cuts are usually worn sleek and smooth, but adding flouncy volume and tousle and flow is a great way to dress up a mid-length style. Buoyant waves and swooshing side parts show a 1960s influence, while paying homage to the current trend for modern bob-length cuts. This style works best on shapes that sit on or above the shoulder; with the style in place you can use a brush and a blow-dryer, or a curling iron or wand, to add artful texture.

Step 1: For best results, start with a long bob that sits at the shoulder.

Step 2: The right product will support this style and give it staying power. Protective thickening lotion or volume foam are good choices when you want to add body and bounce. Work through damp hair and blowdry using a boar bristle round brush to encourage shape and texture.

Step 3: Alternatively. use a curling iron or wand to create tumbling ‘C’-shaped movements all through the front, top, sides, and back.

Step 4: Mist finished style with primp working spray for texture and grip.
