The Best Celebrity Looks of the Week
Jul 30, 2013 - by Nick Arrojo
The heat wave is over, the temperatures cooler, but my favorite celebrity looks of the week were full of hot radiance and glow. From Naya Riveria’s sleek pony to Kate Middleton’s post baby blow-out, the red carpet and the street offered a variety of looks from which we can all draw inspiration. Click through to style notes for my top tips on recreating my favorite celebrity styles from the past week. –– Michelle Rotbart
Naya Riviera: Everybody’s favorite singing mean girl looked flawless at the Giffoni Film Festival last week. Donning a beautiful Micheal Kors magenta strapless dress with metallic pumps that gave a polished edge to the sweet look, I found her slicked back wavy ponytail to be the perfect accessory to take her from girly to glam. For a a glossy pony like Naya’s, apply styling whip and three drops of shine luxe oil to damp hair and blow dry with a round brush for volume. Once hair is dry, use a small paddle brush to sleek hair back into a ponytail. Secure with a hair tie. Tousle the pony and spray all over with primp.
Kate Middleton: New mom Kate made headlines presenting Prince George. Kate was perfectly put together in a cute Jenny Packhamm polka-dot dress and her signature blow-out. (If only we all had a Royal hairdresser to primp and polish our locks!) For polished hair like Kate’s, spray protective thickening lotion and shine luxe oil into damp hair and begin blow-drying strands from the bottom layers up, pinning up any sections you’re not styling. Using a round brush, grab hair at the root and run the brush down lengths, keeping your blow-dryer over the brush as you move. As you finish each section, bring down the next until you have completed the whole head. You can also use a flat iron to seal in silkiness, but stop short of your ends to get a slightly tousled look.
Rose Byrne: The actress paired a Christopher Kane eyelet dress with a lovely romantic style bun for the Blue Jasmine L.A. Premeire. Her hair was loosely pulled back off her face, showing off her cheekbones and eyes. Best yet, the bun highlighted her beautiful waves and textured hair. For a look like Rose’s, spray refinish into second day hair and finger comb into a ponytail. Twist and coil length into a bun and pin into place. Spray with refinish again and run fingers some more for extra tousling. Leave any loose pieces out for a perfectly undone finish.
