Back in 2010 the biggest trend in tresses was the asymmetrical side-shave. Musicians like Cassie, Rihanna, and Pink popularized the 1980’s punk-inspired haircut –– worn by their musical predecessors Salt N Pepa and T.Boz. This summer, the trend has moved beyond a shaven side and on to a fully shaved head. Seen on it-girls Agynesss Deyn, Amber Rose, and Solonage Knowles, the look is severe, bold, and (apparently) can even make you feel more feminine. Wondering if you can pull off a shaven look? –– Michelle Rotbart

Step 1: You don’t need to be a fashion model to rock this look, though high cheekbones, defined features, and a pretty face won’t hurt. Confidence and a great smile goes a long way.

Step 2: Rather than shaving your head, we recommend you ask an expert hairdresser to “scissor-over-comb” scissor cut your hair as short as they can. You’ll be surprised how tight a top stylist can take the crop, and this way hair will grow out much, much better.

Step 3: Even with an eighth-of-an-inch of length, you can use products like texture paste and cream wax to create definition.
