Rebecca Minkoff Cites Instagram as the Reason Shoe Sales Soar 100%
Last year when womenswear line Rebecca Minkoff started using Instagram, they focused the account around their line of footwear. One year later, the sales of their shoes have skyrocketed 100% and they’re naming their Instagram account responsible.
Social Media network newbie Instagram has become the obsession of many an iPhone or Droid user and many brands are capitalizing on its popularity by creating their own accounts. Rebecca Minkoff has used the app to drive sales specifically to their footwear line and the results over the past year have proved to be very successful. A 100% increase in shoe sales successful.
The brand initially started instagramming their footwear daily with a movement they entitled Shoeography. They found that by posting a new pair of stilettos or pumps worn by Rebecca everyday, they could receive thousands of hearts and engage their customer in one of the simplest ways possible.
The Rebecca Minkoff account currently garners 100,000 followers and is currently growing by a rate of 500 – 2,000 followers a day. More statistics specific to the app alone include the fact that 70% of the 100 million users are female. This inspired the brand to then pair up with the department store Bloomingdales to post promoted footwear sales and they found that they often had to reorder styles that were Instagrammed.
Last February, the brand hosted an Instagram contest where the winner received a trip to last month’s Rebecca Minkoff runway presentation and discovered that this drove their follower base to increase by 14,000 a week.
