It’s been a big week for the Spice Girls and for fashion auctions with the former reuniting to celebrate the new musical Viva Forever and Daphne Guinness and Lady Gaga setting records for the latter. So perhaps it was inevitable the two would coincide with the Spice Girls auctioning off some of their old costumes for charity. Cue the return of the sneaker platform.

Spice Girls to Auction Old Costumes for Charity

The always reliable Daily Mirror claims the Spice sale will benefit the charities, Save the Children and Children in Need, with Victoria Beckham donating her LBDs; Melanie Brown her leopard bodysuits; Emma Bunton her babydoll dresses; Geri Halliwell her minidresses and Melanie Chisholm her…tracksuits.

“I’ve got all my costumes still,” said the artist formerly known as Posh Spice. “I can’t wait for Harper to grow a little so she can have some. But the rest I’d like to put up for charity, I think it would be a fantastic thing to do.”

Also reportedly on the auction block are those much-reviled/beloved sneaker platforms that Beckham refused to wear, according to Halliwell: “It was the Buffalo shoes that Victoria really wants to wear again! She hated them – she wouldn’t wear them.”

She wasn’t called Posh for nothin’.

While the idea of slipping into some of the Spice Girls’ old finery is tantalizing, don’t zig-a-zig-ah quite yet. According to Vogue UK, the rumors of a charity auction are just that — rumors. Unsurprisingly, the rumors of a collaboration between the Lady Beckham and Sarah Jessica Parker are also unsubstantiated.

But what about the children in need? Who will save the children now? [THR via Daily Mirror]
