Quel Scandale! Paris (Fashion Week) Is Burning

Edited by

I don’t know what it is, but there’s something about Paris Fashion Week that brings out the crazy in everyone. Lest you forget it was around this time last year that John Galliano went swimming in a pool of anti-Semitic haterade, thus plunging the fashion world into a year-long speculative mission regarding his successorChristophe Decarnin had his breakdown and falling out with Balmain and  Kanye West dropped the biggest bomb of his career – and I’m not talking about 808s & Heartbreak. Not to mention a few months ago during the spring 2012 season that whole fashion calendar war was ignited. This PFW promises to be, if not equally scandalous, at least worth the clutching of your collective Chanel pearls. Here are the top scandals burning down the City of Lights.

Haider Ackermann Returns to the Race for the Dior Gig

Edited by

I don’t know about you, but personally, I’m tired of hearing about who may possibly be taking over Christian Dior after everyone from Carine Roitfeld to Riccardo Tisci to recently ousted Jil Sander frontman Raf Simons has been rumored for the position. Christian Dior Spring 2012 Haute Couture an Exercise in “Sheer” Boredom

Edited by

Bill Gaytten and the hardworking hands of the Christian Dior atelier returned this haute couture season with a much more subdued collection than last fall’s largely-derided offering. Trading in silly headpieces and deafeningly loud prints for cleaner silhouettes and a sedate color palette of largely whites, greys and blacks, the aesthetic pendulum swung rather violently. The storied house has also adopted the industry-wide obsession with sheer panels and overlays, already brought to its perfect zenith by Givenchy seasons ago. Still present, however, was the classic Dior New Look shape of  a cinched waist and a full skirt. While this haute couture collection was a deliberately safer outing for the still-creative-director-less Dior, it understandably and inevitably came off more than just a little boring. Gaytten and co. have yet to strike the right balance between the house’s glorious past and the fantastical places John Galliano took it during his legendary reign. But at least they got one thing right: Karlie Kloss was back opening the show. If you want a strong start, there’s no better hoofer in the game. Check out some highlights — and a few lowlights —  from Christian Dior’s spring 2012 haute couture show after the jump!

Edited by

‘Twas one hell of a year for fashion, 2011.  Alexander McQueen triumphed this year thanks to a pair of well-documented dresses and a bona fide cultural phenomenon at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Christian Dior tried to rebound from a potential PR nightmare, to varying degrees of success. Diffusion lines easily out-shined their designer homes.  An editrix reinvented herself amidst a sea of rumors without losing a beat.  And underaged fashionistas grew up in front of our very eyes. Here are our picks for the 25 most memorable and stylish moments of 2011.
