Decidedly done with school, Mathieu Mirano dropped his first collection at the ripe age of twenty. With commissions from some fabulous women, this born and bred New Yorker took his couture to Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. Revved up in the Year of the Dragon, he let that theme guide him, mixing materials like embroideries, fur and studs, his sleek aesthetic has a tough coating.

When designer Ayten Gasson graduated from Central Saint Martins in 2004, she was disappointed to find most of the local companies in her native UK were closing their factories and looking for alternative production methods overseas. But when she launched her luxury lingerie label in 2005, she committed to do the exact opposite by utilizing and supporting the UK fashion industry by producing every item, from garters to teddies, in small production units in London, Nottingham and Wales.
