Edited by

- Noted shit-talker Karl Lagerfeld has been invited to provide commentary on Queen Elizabeth II‘s Diamond Jubilee on French television, all but guaranteeing World War III. [WWD]

- Proving that she’s been shutting shit down for several decades, Michelle Obama‘s prom photo has recently surfaced and we’re talking satin, a thigh-high slit and décolletage for days. Take a note, trash. Meanwhile, Barack sure looked different back in the day — this must have been before he stopped smoking pot. [Telegraph]

Designer Daily: Claudio Pino

Edited by

Claudio Pino has been intensely studying and crafting rings for decades; interpreting the interplay between ring and wearer, delving into the history of men and rings, manipulating how they play with light, and constantly proving how they are powerful. His finger adornments are sculptures with moving pieces. Glass that magnifies leaves light to follow the finger, and orbs on one spin like Gaga on Ellen. Out of Quebec, we get this fine artist, ever on a quest to make the most powerful ring.

IndieNewsroom: Madonna’s New Album Cover…Blake Lively Wants Tranny Kids…Ellen Writes a Check to MObama Her Pecs Can’t Cash

Edited by

- Madonna is back in a big way. In addition to a new film (that may or may not be awful), a Super Bowl halftime performance this weekend (that may or may not feature an exposed nipple) and a video with Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. that debuts tonight during American Idol (that may or may not involve a threesome), the Queen of Pop also has a new album coming out called MDNA. And this is the cover. I’m getting a little Breathless Mahoney. [Paper]

It’s Gotten Better…Could Be Worse: The Modern Gay Rights Movement in Under 7 Minutes

Edited by

This short documentary by Ryan James Yezak takes over 50 years of clips depicting gay culture in America — from early public service announcements on the dangers of the homosexual scourge to Ellen DeGeneres coming out on primetime to the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell — and condenses them all into an easily digestible 6:52.  It’s an inspiring bit of filmmaking, but also quite inflammatory and downright infuriating when one considers the amount of blatant prejudice and oppression that generations of people have been subjected to for a simple and innate characteristic they can neither control nor determine. That the face of gay rights is overwhelmingly a white one is a minor gripe that I don’t have the time or energy to even begin to explore, but there has been undeniable progress in the fight for equality. Yet there’s so much more fighting to do in order to ensure that one human being is never considered lesser than another, especially for something as trivial as who they happen to love. Take the 6:52 out of your day to watch “The Gay Rights Movement.”

An Absent Katy Perry Wins 5 People’s Choice Awards Proving People Shouldn’t Be Allowed to Have Choices or Awards

Edited by

Let’s get this over with. Well, the People’s Choice Awards – or as I like to call it, “Wait, who’s that on the stage?” –  were last night and Katy Perry cleaned house, winning five of the coveted (?) awards, including Favorite Female Artist, Favorite Song of the Year for “E.T.”, Favorite Music Video for “Last Night (T.G.I.F.)” and interestingly enough, Favorite TV Guest Star for her stint on How I Met Your Mother. Too bad she didn’t bother to show up. But as we all know, the People’s Choice Awards are on par with the Grammys in terms of relevance and on par with a moderately lavish bar mitzvah in terms of its ability to draw celebrities. Other big winners included Emma Stone, who was actually present to accept her awards for  Favorite Movie Actress and Favorite Comedic Movie Actress and Demi Lovato who beat out pop heavyweights Beyoncé, Lady GagaRihanna and Perry to win Favorite Pop Artist. Full, unnecessarily long list of winners after the jump.

The Ellen DeGeneres Dance Reigns Over Rejection

Edited by

Going on live television and asking the love of your life for her hand in marriage can be a nerve-racking experience. There’s always the chance of rejection in front of, oh you know, the entire country. Or, she could say yes in the moment and tell you you’re an idiot later. Well on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, there are no unhappy endings, even for poor Jacob Waterdale who got down on one knee only to be rejected in front of hundreds of gays and housewives. See the hilariously heart-wrenching clip after the jump.
