#NYFW Cheat Sheet: Callula Lillibelle Spring 2012

Edited by

Callula Lillibelle channeled the modern Sophia Loren for Spring 2012. Designers William Calvert and Melanie Fraser Hart sought to answer the questions who embodies Sophia Loren today and what is she wearing? Independent, glamorous starlets who came to the designers’ minds were Penélope Cruz and Beyoncé. The collection featured tons of patterns, from polka dots to leopard to raindrop. With all the spots in the room, the collection would be perfect for Cruella De Vil’s fun, flirty twin sister.

#NYFW Cheat Sheet: L.A.M.B. Spring 2012

Edited by

Gwen Stefani revisited familiar territory with her spring 2012 L.A.M.B. presentation — lots of tribal and animal prints, jumpsuits and booty shorts for days. She definitely has an aesthetic and it works for her. Nothing revolutionary but Stefani’s Harajuku girl has been hanging out with some tough Banjee girls from around the way and as a result this collection is a little more street but still pretty chic.

#NYFW Cheat Sheet: Christian Siriano Spring 2012

Edited by

The Christian Siriano girl is quickly becoming a lady — a lady who lunches on the town then paints it red, or in this case — and for spring 2012 in general — coral. The first eight looks were the obvious highlight — the designer’s cleanest and most sophisticated yet. After that, it meandered a bit with a few hits along the way before the finale gowns floated down the runway.

Male Model Hangover: Backstage at Parke and Ronen

Edited by

Stepping backstage at Parke and Ronen‘s first runway show was like stepping into one of my dreams –  but a dream of a very private and parsonal nature. Diego Miguel, Arthur Sales, Rob Evans and a series of scantily-clad and heavily-muscled male models stormed the runway, but backstage they casually went about their business, albeit sans shirts, pants or shame. As I’ve been drunk since Fashion Week began and might not make it to Humpday, may I present Male Model Hangover.

Now that we’ve told you what to wear to ascend the ladder of streetstyle success, you’re going to need to know how to pose for the flurry of photos surely coming your way. Andrew Weir Has “Never Seen This Many Great New Faces in a Season. Ever.”

Edited by

This Sunday, in the middle of a parade of some 400 girls from every New York modeling agency, I sat down with casting superdirector Andrew Weir at the Hudson Hotel’s library. Weir was casting catwalkers for four shows this Fashion WeekThakoon, Rachel Zoe, Rebecca Taylor and Jen Kao. The selection of beautiful young things was  impressive to say the least and I took the opportunity to pick Weir’s brain on the state of the modeling industry today.

What to Wear to Make You a Streetstyle Star

Edited by

There are three occasions I look forward to, in terms of getting dressed. First and foremost, is my annual gaycation to Provincetown, during which the booty shorts cum denim panties too risqué for even Chelsea and the sequined leggings too “say-something” for a work look are paraded about on a daily basis. More recently, I’ve gotten into Halloween just for another excuse to wear a heel. And then of course, there is Fashion Week. It’s a battlefield out there; survival of the chicest. The ante has been further upped by the explosion of photoseekers running around, snapping pics of the best-dressed stomping in and out of shows. So how do you catwalk in front of the lens and into the hearts of the new social anthropologist — the streetstyle blogger? Here are 5 looks to get you noticed.
