Free Exchange Fur: Adrienne Landau from Forest to NYFW to Subway to Me… to HSN

Edited by

Last week, Vice Magazine posed this furry question. Free Range Fur: Is it still murder if you trap it, skin it, and sew it yourself? Aside from my belief that it is more humane to raise an animal for slaughter than it is to take a free and happy one out of the forest, this week FashionIndie asks our own fur-centric question: Is it still murder if you earn your fur by bartering the written word that embodies Adrienne Landau‘s collection inspiration for her run-of-show pamphlet? What if the initial meeting were to happen entirely by chance, outside of Lincoln Center, whereupon I would as well wind up interviewing her  on the subway en route back to our respective offices in the garment center? Could my conscious cope? I think the answer is pretty clear. And I’m wearing it now.

SHOE ENVY: Forfex Opening Ceremony Exclusive Dalmatian Sneaker

Edited by

Before you get out your paint buckets and call me Cruella Deville, note these fly sneakers are made of faux dalmatian fur. Opening Ceremony scored an exclusive with Italian sneaker brand Forfex, so you can’t find these cool kid sneakers anywhere else. Immaculate white soles and laces are surrounded by a familiar black-spotted fur that conjures memories of summer and fire hydrants and the playful nature of the creatures themselves. Suitable for both men and women, but remember to size down, ladies.

10 Fur-tastic Winter Hats

Edited by

Having already been donning my new faux fur trapper, even on inappropriately warm days, I’m very ready for the winter of the fur hat. It certainly makes sense, what with this being the year of the hat, so you won’t get away with re-wearing your pilling beanie of seasons past (not that I thought you’d try). No, the hat du jour is furry, real or fake (someone’s judging either way), so trap yourself a bit of coziness around the head, and keep toasty cool.

Three East Village Shops with Coats to Die Faux

Edited by

Inspired by Kate Lanphear lauding the East Village as her shopping stomping grounds, I plucked my bum up off the interwebs and hit the road. I dropped myself off on E. 9th Street and journeyed eastbound and up. What struck my fancy in a few stores in particular were the awesome caliber of faux fur jackets, which usually just strike me as faux pas. In case you don’t have a few thou to spend on a few animals’ worth of jacket, try these real life finds in these fantastic indie boutiques.

Louis Vuitton Rockets to the Penthouse of the Universe for Fall 2011

Edited by

Dead. Girl. Walking. Louis Vuitton always kills me, always in the right way. Marc Jacobs certainly had obsession in mind when he designed the Fall 2011 collection, shown today in Paris, ending another long fashion season. “It’s all about fetish,” Jacobs told WWD the night before his show. But what about the collection garnered these feelings of lust and addiction to mere materials? Is it the sleeves and legs recalling leg of mutton cuts, creating voluptuous hourglass silhouettes that could launch 1000 ships? Could it be the rubberized lace garments or refusal to wear pants, a trend I am behind 100 percent. What about the 18-karat gold handbag securely handcuffed to a model’s wrist? Everything from excessive use of the LV logo to tiny little wrist gloves to waxed faux fur, it’s clear the Louis Vuitton woman is magnificent and always will be. Every piece from prim and proper rounded collars to eccentric prints and diamond-shaped sequins to dominatrix corset belts had a place, creating a tremendously cohesive but sundry collection. French maids and elevator porters accessorized the elaborate scene, as models walked from a gilded and black iron retro elevator bank.  Naomi Campbell, terrifying in the chicest of ways, walked the runway, as did Kate Moss who closed the show, cigarette in hand. “Save the best for last” is the saying, and Louis Vuitton is obviously the penthouse of Fashion Week.

Paris Fashion Week: Junya Watanabe in Leather and Faux

Edited by

Structured and restructured leather bombers walked much of Junya Watanabe’s runway this week in Paris. With columns of fit seams, he builds the strength of the hide and shapes the skin into curves. He played with the typical vision of the leather motorcycle jacket and turned it, not just cinched waisted, but also oversized, caped, bell sleeved and large collared. He faced the stampede of leather against fake fur, the likes of which we have not been seeing this season.  His use of the material can be even more intriguing than the real deal.
