QUEL SCANDALE! Banned In Britain

Edited by

Natalie Portman‘s Dior mascara ad is only the latest fashion ad to be banned on the limey streets of Britannia. Because the English are notoriously conservative, they scandalize easily whereas in America we have Lindsay Lohan. There’s no scandal big enough for us to bat a digitally altered eyelash at. Here, a sampling of ads banned by the UK’s watchdog, the Advertising Standards Authority.

ASA Rules There’s No Shame in Harvey Nichols’ Game

Edited by

Britain’s Advertising Standards Authority has had its share of questionable decisions in the past. From deeming Hailee Steinfeld‘s Miu Miu ads “irresponsible” for depicting the teen actress on railroad tracks to banning Dakota Fanning‘s Marc Jacobs “Oh Lola” ads for being “sexually provocative.” Well it seems the ASA has loosened up a little — at least when it comes to loose women — giving a controversial  ”Walk of Shame” video by Harvey Nichols a thumbs up. Diffusion lines easily out-shined their designer homes.  An editrix reinvented herself amidst a sea of rumors without losing a beat.  And underaged fashionistas grew up in front of our very eyes. Here are our picks for the 25 most memorable and stylish moments of 2011.

The Tracks of Hailee Steinfeld’s Tears: Teen Starlet’s “Irresponsible” Miu Miu Ad Banned

Edited by

It’s not easy being Hailee Steinfeld. Sure, being prematurely gorgeous and precociously talented, earning an Oscar nomination while barely in high school, having designers clamor to dress you for the red carpet and place you in their ad campaigns seems like a dream. And for all intents and purposes it is. But leave it to the UK’s Advertising Standards Authority to rain all over the young actress’ somnambulant parade.
