Bourbon Streetstyle: 25 Coolest Cats in New Orleans

Edited by

In a city where open container laws simply do not exist, liquor is sold by the fishbowl, and streets are closed at night to ensure that pedestrians have full run of the bars, people are out and dressed to the hilt. Well, almost all. I’m not counting the 35,000 Lutherans gathering for some kind of convention in Church-themed t-shirts, trolling around Nawlins allegedly not drinking. Those I did find nearly all happened to be involved in fashion one way or another. I met indie designers, stylists, a Princess, and one guy who, outside of work, strictly wears platform Jeffery Campbells. Take a look.

Next Stop Shop on INDIExUS: Edge of URGE [Wilmington, NC]

Edited by

After a Travelodge’s night sleep, we awoke to a morning on the beach followed by a shopping spree at Edge of Urge, one of the stores I’ve been sourcing so many pieces from in our style guides! It was every bit as delightful as I thought it would be from their killer website. Come inside with me to the cutest store in Wilmington, North Carolina, and one of the best of the web.

Indie Designers: This Sourcing Book Will Save Your Life

I’ve discovered The Sourcer’s Stone; a rock to cling to when every textile mill I call tells me “3,000 yard minimun! 1,000 yard per color!” A guiding light when I’m googling and cold calling mills about a specific fabric. My support system when it feels like there’s hardly anybody left in NYC that will sew a garment for a reasonable price! Enter The Designer’s Guide, which lists only low-minimum fabric resources, and The Sourcer’s Guide, which additionally gives precious information about contractors, pattern makers, cutters, and trim resources. And you can search by fabric in great detail. Let me explain.

Shop New, New York: Cloak & Dagger Opens Brooklyn

Edited by

Brookelynn takes Brooklyn. Brookelynn Starnes owns the already adorable East Village shop Cloak and Dagger, and she just opened her new locale in Boerum Hill. Stocked with seriously cool pieces, she serves up the best Karen Walker and Tsubi sunnies, Verameat jewelry, Lauren Moffatt capes – basically all the indies you crave. The exposed brick and crown moulding give the petite shoppe a homey feel, and the sleek selection makes you want to wear everything right out of the store. Like this Shelter backpack I bought on opening night, that is now cruising the Caribbean with me.

Shop Like Etsy but on the Higher End of Fashion

Edited by

Like the concept of Etsy but find it a bit too Susie Homemaker? Well we just discovered its distant high fashion cousin: Sense of Fashion. Designers can open their own stores within this online space and sell their designs direct to customers. We could imagine Lady Gaga browsing this place. Check these three indie designers from the world over, and discover more on senseofashion.com.
