We love drinking just about as much as we love getting dressed. So the only logical next step is to dress up our drinks. I’m not talking that mixology mumbo jumbo, I mean on the outside. Accessorizing the bottle that you can now shamelessly swig in public. Luckily there’s a Freaker in North Carolina that’s on the bottle styling mission already.
Abe Lincoln, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Teddy Roosevelt looked out upon a throng of sharply dressed Asian tourists and ruff ridin’ Harley Davidson dudes when we visited Mount Rushmore on the great INDIExUS Road Trip. Find out why.
There’s something kind of funny about walking into a store where the office space in back is exposed, one of the bags for sale seems to be constructed out of paper, and Applause indicator hangs on the wall. But this store’s no joke. Owner Diana Kim stocks the small space with the avant gard, the local, the functional, and the unseen. A true independent, she’s consciously not driven by trends, but rather by designers that experiment, like Nancy Stella Soto and Nomia. See who’s got the latest laugh in Portland at Stand Up Comedy, and why Portlandia‘s Carrie Brownstein shops there so often.
Go into any native shop in America and you’ll find bolos of varying value from various tribes. But go to Assembly New York or Stand Up Comedy in Portland and you’ll find a native that has made very valuable, handcast and organically dyed, modern bolos. Autoctona translates to native in Italian, and this Sardinian turned Portlandian designer is making well more than bolos in her prolific studio. See our favorite of hers ahead.
Last night’s 90s party really got me jonesin’ for my first (and forever) pair of Doc Martens. They were a woven strap sandal, and I wore them almost every day in the spring of 4th grade. My love of the ultimate foot Dr. brought me to the U.S. Dr. Martens headquarters in Portland, where the 90s are alive and well on the street. I scoped out all the upcoming collaborations, like model-turned-actress-now-designer Agyness Deyn (out now!) and new styles that’ll make you smile.
