Essential Viewing for the Fashionable Man

Edited by

The epitome of the classic gentleman is and will always be Cary Grant. No one wore a tux like him, no one could charm the socks off of the world like him and no leading man has ever come close to his effortless elegance — sorry Clooney. And for that very reason, there are no Cary Grant films on this list of Essential Viewing for the Fashionable Man.

MODEL MUSING: Parker Hurley

Edited by

The affable and charming Parker Hurley hails from a town in South Jersey that, as he puts it, has more cows than people; but in only two years he’s managed to climb to the top of the male model heap thanks to his classic leading man looks and the careful stewardship of his agent, John Babin. Just recently he was named as one of the “Top 100 Faces of 2011” by Client Magazine. I met up with Parker at his home away from home, Red Model Management, to discuss his favorite photograph, by Dima Hohlov for E&A Magazine.

#NYFW Round-Up: FashionIndie’s Faves from New York Spring 2012

Edited by

There’s a definite consensus around the FashionIndie office regarding this season at the tents: lackluster. Gone was the excitement and the thrill of the new and in its stead stood a circus comprised of the old guard impatiently appraising the crop of would-be streetstyle stars and the army of bloggers hanging about as they waded through the muck of the nameless and the irrelevant to find a collection onto which to pin their ever-dwindling hopes . Still, there were a few shows that set the five barely-beating hearts of FashionIndie racing and had our backs aching to be clothed in their bright and bold designs.

TURNING CLASSIC MOVIES: Elizabeth Taylor (1932–2011)

Edited by

The skies are a little darker now that one of its brightest stars has ceased to shine — Dame Elizabeth Taylor died today. In addition to a buttload of grandkids, she leaves behind a legendary film canon. Elizabeth Taylor emerged from child stardom to become a gorgeous ingenue then a formidable actress and finally an Oscar-winning leading lady. Along the way she blazed a sartorial path that cemented her as not only a screen idol but a style icon. Let’s take a leisurely stroll down memory lane for some of Liz’s greatest fashions, on and off the screen, through her long, storied and above all, impressive life and career.

Cuckoo for Couture!

Edited by

Ready-to-Wear may be the bread and butter of the fashion industry, but Haute Couture is the impossibly expensive Foie gras used as a garnish. Couture week is the only part of fashion that consistently excites me, as it all but guarantees incomparable beauty, a larger than life fantasy and impeccable craftsmanship. In short, couture is why I love fashion. There are only a few true couture houses — Chanel, Dior, Armani Privé, Givenchy, Gaultier, Valentino and a handful of others. It’s an exclusive club, but (incredibly hot) 26-year-old Maxime Simoëns is throwing his chapeau into the ring.
