In this edition of Red Carpet Report Card, I’m grading Hailee Steinfeld on her Mary Katrantzou Spring 2012 look worn to ELLE Magazine and Sundance Channel’s All on the Line with Joe Zee celebration at Soho House in Los Angeles. See how she looked after the jump.
Looking around the scene at Tommy Hilfiger’s fall 2012 runway show I thought I had mistakenly wandered into an English garden. Vines of ivy twisted their way along brick columns and trees fully in bloom sat in their own separate little fields. If not for the giant catwalk winding around those fields, I would’ve expected a tea party to commence at any second. From this setting I also expected very light, dainty, ladylike fare – but from the first look it was apparent that the house that Tommy built was not serving tea. A thread of military dressing ran through the collection, centered heavily on coats in shearling, bonded leather and Melton wool. Dresses in silk suggested a ladylike quality, but this lady’s ready to face the ravages of fall and stare it down till the spring.
As you may or may not know, we’re very critical about American magazines and their obsession with celebrities on there covers. (Exhibit A) The October cover makes up for the lack of models on American publications by featuring 4 of the top
working werqing girls.
Olivier Theyskens and Theory‘s Andrew Rosen turned to fashion tome, Elle to showcase the designer’s debut collection “through the eyes of magazine editors.” The result finds seven Elle stylists, including creative director Joe Zee and Kate Lanphear, putting their personal spin on Theyskens creations.
Every budding fashionista and almost fashion graduate usually has the same question on their mind this time of year: “How do I make it in the industry?”. We know there is no better way than to hear it from the experts themselves, so we were psyched to hear that the Vitaminwater style council had come to the rescue. Read how after the jump.
FASHION SCRAMBLE: L.B.D. Good Johnny Weir + Zee, Baby Ain’t I Good to You? + Gwyneth Good for Coach?
- Olympic figure skater and all-around sassbag, Johnny Weir is designing a line of little black dresses exclusively through eDressMe.com. Ranging in price from $198 to $298, the LBDs will be modeled during the second annual “Ice Dreams” skating show — where young skaters get a chance to skate with their heroes — and will be available for purchase April 30. Naturally, Weir’s dresses are replete with ostrich feathers, sequins and taffeta, much like Johnny Weir himself. [WWD]

Girlfriend is on a winning streak. Amanda Seyfried is the April 2011 cover girl for Elle Magazine, and she looks incredibly fresh and beautiful. In a black and white spread shot by Alexei Hay, Seyfried charms with the cutest farm animals in the sweetest lace dresses. Valentino, Dolce & Gabbana and Alexander McQueen clothe the blond belle in all of her graciousness, styled by creative director Joe Zee. I am excited to see the talented actress appearing in so many great spreads as of late. Enjoy this gorgeous spread on this gorgeous Friday.
