NYFW Collection Recap: Geoffrey Mac Fall 2012

Edited by

LOOKBOOKS editor-in-chief Cator Sparks got the scoop backstage at Exit Art for the Geoffrey Mac Fall 2012 show. Check out all the behind-the-scenes action below.

We gladly support any designer who has done looks for Lady Bunny and Nicki Minaj, so we zipped over to Geoffrey Mac to check out the buzz. “Humans are taking on a new form in a new era!,” Mac told us. But that didn’t seem to really be what worried him. “I am trying to keep my collection wearable but fine art related.” The lovable Cody Ravioli did the wigs. That’s alot of bubble cuts you have there: “Oh girl, it was alot of teasing, smoothing and kicking the dogs out of the room so they wouldnt gag on Aqua-net!,” she giggled as she sprayed and backcombed.

Helen Yarmak Writes a Russian Fairy Tale for Fall 2012

Edited by

Whether for the spring or fall season, Helen Yarmak‘s presentation is one I look forward to with each coming Fashion Week. Last Saturday, I had the pleasure of seeing the brilliant furrier’s Fall/Winter 2012 collection during a private appointment over vodka and orange juice in the stunning Royal Terrace Penthouse in Fifth Avenue’s Crown Building. Titled Russian Fairy Tale, the collection was nothing less than what you’d expect. Rich mink, sable and lynx conjures daydreams of dancing on ice to Tchaikovsky in a wonderland far, far away. The versatility of the pieces – most were reversible and alterable by removing a collar – made the collection perfect for both young women and those who’ve been wearing fur for forty years. Click to see all the pieces from this incredibly opulent collection.

#NYFW Cheat Sheet: Vivienne Tam Fall/Winter 2012

Edited by

Shearling and leather and dragons, oh my. Staying on trend with many other Fall 2012 collections we’ve seen, Vivienne Tam used rich colors like burnt orange, eggplant and forest green to meld ethnic prints with sleek tailoring. Mongolian fur collars topped wool coats worn over skirts and pants of lustrous fabrics. Lace dresses were paired with wool trousers for daytime-chic outfits that could carry into the night. For the working girl who doesn’t want to compromise her free, ethereal sense of style, Tam’s collection will have the boho-pros lining up around the block.

W Magazine Celebrates Sølve Sundsbo’s “Ever Changing Face of Beauty”

Edited by

Walking into the Park Ave Armory last night, one couldn’t help but notice the two 25-foot tall screens, one projecting a male and the other a female, perpetually walking in silhouette. The image alone was striking but guests of W Magazine and acclaimed photographer Sølve Sundsbo hadn’t seen anything yet. The unknown male and female were revealed to be none other than Calvin Klein darlings David Agbodji and Lara Stone, who through the course of Sundsbo’s “Ever Changing Face of Beauty” blurred the lines of race, gender, culture and even species through a series of digital morphs. Lara’s and David’s body parts were mixed and matched while fashion by stylist Marie Chaix beautifully augmented the surrealistic vibe of the piece. The result was a visually-stunning exploration of the many facets — and faces — of beauty and a true highlight of an otherwise lackluster Fashion Week. Click through for photos and video from the exhibit.
