Frock of Ages: A History of Eco-Fashion

Edited by

Eco-fashion as we know it developed in the 1960s thanks to those damned dirty hippies and the burgeoning environmentalist movement. However, the history of sustainable style can be traced back to the 18th century when hand-crafted silk garments were “meticulously cared-for and altered for continued wear,” according to the Museum at FIT‘s Eco-Fashion: Going Green exhibit from two years ago. That exhibit explored the often contentious relationship between fashion and the environment and how it has developed over the past few centuries.

The Tents, A History of New York Fashion Week

Edited by

I just sneak previewed the film that has crept its way into the belly of New York’s fashionable whale. It found three glasses of Chandon and a dime-size hors d’oeuvre dinner. It also found the history of New York Fashion Week, which evolved from a goose chase of Manhattan’s shabbier locales to an editor-friendly runway machine inside Tents that house the most fabulous of circus on the planet. The Tents: The NY Fashion Week Documentary gives a proper remembrance to the 18 years in Bryant Park where fashion changed. Through interviews with Donna, Calvin, Betsey, Isaac, Carolina, Zac, Tommy, editors and NYFW creators, we get an über dramatic (“Editors had to take taxis all over town, HORRIBLE!”), yet pretty darn accurate collective fashion saga. Watch the chill-inducing trailer here.

The Catherine Factor

Edited by

Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge and her influence on fashion have been well-documented. Never making a wedged misstep, the Duchess is effectively holding fashionable court. Hence, the “Catherine factor.” The “CF,” according to The New York TimesSuzy Menkes ”gave basic summer dresses, always focused on that narrow waist, a fresh feeling.” Meanwhile, I came up with the “Catherine factor” ages ago, but that was just the nickname I gave for my manorexia cum brolemia.

I MEAN WHAT: The AmFAR From Best Dresed List

Edited by

I Mean..What?!? loves a good best dressed list…but there’s nothing like the exact opposite to warm the cockles of  our heart. That and Suzy Menkes. Of all the film festivals…and there are millions these days because all you need is a Chamber of Commerce and ta-da…but I digress…the Cannes Film Festival is the one where fashion really matters most. Sure the films are important too, but there’s no red carpet other than the Oscars that commands such drama. Sorry Emmys and Golden Globes…get over yourselves. Anyhoo, I could not help noticing a few fashion faux pas from the AmFAR Benefit…probably because I am not blind…so I wanted to share my AmFar From Best Dressed List with you.

I MEAN WHAT: The AmFAR From Best Dresed List

Sorry L'Wren, but you normally do great clean lines. This shoulder thingie reminds me of…

I MEAN WHAT: The AmFAR From Best Dresed List

D Squared homage to Bird Bird.

I MEAN WHAT: The AmFAR From Best Dresed List

Oh, goodness Grace-cious, Miss Jones.

I MEAN WHAT: The AmFAR From Best Dresed List

This number that Kirsten Dunst is wearing reminds me of those ridiculous cockadoodle lesbian haircuts where one side is long and the other is buzzed short.

I MEAN WHAT: The AmFAR From Best Dresed List

Jennifer Lopez is beautiful, but she's been sporting a lot of ruffles and poofy things all week. Sleek girl…sleek. Call Calvin Klein cause that prom thing is ovah.

I MEAN WHAT: The AmFAR From Best Dresed List

By no means is Diane Kruger horrine, but she looked so amazing at the CFDA Awards that this to me pales in comparison. I know…it must be Chanel Couture…yada yada.

I MEAN WHAT: The AmFAR From Best Dresed List

Hmmm…I don't know. Kind of reminds me of a fortune tellers rooms decor. See what I mean. When they come from behind that fringed room divider for effect.

I MEAN WHAT: The AmFAR From Best Dresed List

Dree Hemingway wore this mummy meets fashion number…that I kind of get…but…don't at the same time.

I MEAN WHAT: The AmFAR From Best Dresed List

Elizabeth…don't be Banks-in on being of the Best Dress List, girl. Au contraire.
