MUSE OF THE WORLD: Condé Nast Continues Its Downward Spiral, ALT Is Modest As Usual and You Too Can Smell Like a Duchess

Edited by

- Condé Nast is going down in flames, mostly because I’m burning it to the ground as we speak. On the heels of Rihanna disgracing the cover of Vogue and Justin Bieber bringing his fever to Vanity Fair, Katy Perry is the latest popstar to cheapen the CN brand, tarting it up on the cover of June’s Vanity Fair as shot by Annie Leibovitz. Meanwhile, Liz Taylor’s Final Days are relegated to a banner. Give me “Diamonds, sharks, gay bars and the most bizarre road trip ever” over an alleged singer any day of the week. [Vanity Fair]

FASHION SCRAMBLE: Osama’s Death Is a Good Thing, Who Knew? + The Royal Wedding Dress, Deconstructed + Vera Wang’s YSL Connection

Edited by

- With Osama bin Laden‘s assassination this weekend, it’s time to consider what really matters as a result of this historic precedent: the economy. Though stocks rallied following the news of his death being widely propagated — including Kohl’s, Urban Outfitters and Abercrombie & Fitch –  but the buoy had less to do with Osama and more to do with the current upswing in the economy. So I guess we shouldn’t expect a commemorative A&F Al Quaed-erly catalog anytime soon. [WWD]

The Royal Wedding by the Numbers

Edited by

Even Mother Nature herself sat back and watched the Royal Wedding this morning. The forecast called for rain, but as Princess Catherine, or officially Catherine, Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cambridge (as I will only refer to her from now on) stepped out of her Rolls Royce, the sun came out to greet her. Twas a grand undertaking, but let’s take a look at how grand, and how many grands, were actually involved.

Majestic Millinery: The Royal Wedding Hats Most Fit for a Queen

Edited by

Philip Treacy was werqing overtime for the Royal Wedding, outfitting nearly 30 guests with showstopping headpieces, including Victoria Beckham, Camilla Parker-Bowles and mother-of-the-bride Carole Middleton. These hat-acular ladies were the height of ultra-feminine chic and if their counterparts on this side of the ocean were smart, they’d take a note out of their playbooks, or rather a trendy feather out of their hat.

FASHION SCRAMBLE: Halston’s Finances Halted + Dov Loses Majority Stake in AA +Taking Royal Wedding Madness to the Extreme

Edited by

- Seems like Halston‘s president and chief creative office, Sarah Jessica Parker could see the brand Carrie’d away [badoom-cha!] to a new home. They’ve hired an investment bank to decide whether an infusion of cash or perhaps a complete sale of the company is in order after a lackluster four years under Hilco Consumer Capital and The Weinstein Co. MUSE OF THE WORLD: Franca Sozzani Says Go to Hell, Blake Lively Dyes and Top Model’s All Star Return

Edited by

- Vogue Italia editor in chief and avid blogger, Franca Sozzani says that if you don’t like her blog, you “can go to hell.” Sozzani elaborates, “I say that I’m sick and tired and I won’t write my blog anymore, then they say, ‘Oh, continue.’ I write what I think and we can’t all agree; if we all did, where would controversy be? If there is no controversy, there is no opinion.”  [WWD]
