Even if most Japanese commercials were in English, we still wouldn’t understand what the f*ck was going on in them. The latest celeb to endorse something overseas is supermodel Miranda Kerr. Watch her two strange advertisements for Lemon Lipton Tea and you’ll be scratching your head as hard as we are.
You got to love Japanese culture. With their off the wall fashion sense and love for all things cute, Japan’s culture is in many ways polar opposite from ours. Maybe this is why we have no idea what the f*ck is going on in these Lemon Lipton Tea commercials starring Victoria’s Secret supermodel Miranda Kerr.
Who knew 15 seconds of Miranda Kerr singing a Japanese jingle could be so confusing. After repeated viewings of the two 15 second advertisements, we’re pretty sure that even if we spoke Japanese, these ads would be incredibly strange. Both feature the supermodel in yellow outfits (one as a sexy yellow Santa and the other as a sexy yellow bellhop) singing a whiny product jingle when a man in a black hooded outfit hands Miranda a Lipton tea at the end.
Wait, what? First off, Miranda should probably stick to modeling lingerie instead of singing (her voice is now embedded in our brains) and what’s with the hooded man popping out of a sleigh. Also, how does Christmas or being a yellow Santa have to do with Lemon Tea? All of these questions will unfortunately have to remain unanswered as we dust off our Japanese-to-English translation books. Until then we’ll just blame the culture gap.
