After rumors were swimming around for weeks regarding who was to be the next judge on American Idol, Ryan Seacrest has released that female rapper Nicki Minaj will be the latest to join the panel.
We’re pretty sure that having a successful post American Idol career was a thing of the past (i.e. Adam Lambert, Clay Aiken, and Kellie Pickler), but the reality TV staple continues to draw in big names to head its panel.
After the rumors about potential celebrity American Idol judges included Katy Perry, Britney Spears, and Justin Bieber, the rumor mill finally settled on Nicki Minaj and she was named the latest musician to join the all-star cast of judges. The female rapper will be sitting at the judging table with alum Randy Jackson, country star Keith Urban, and mega-diva Mariah Carey. While Nicki grabs a quick 8 mil for the gig, Mariah surpasses her with an $17 million paycheck for the reality TV appearance.
Starting in January, the new season will air with an all-star cast of judges at the helm. Reportedly, Mariah was not too happy about the Nicki news considering she thought she would be the only female on the panel. Luckily for us, this will probably make for great TV and we’re thinking the potential cat fights will breathe some life into the tired and dying format that is American Idol. Maybe we’ll even decide to tune in this season, but it’s unlikely.
