With all these devoted celeb clients, you would think that I would be head over heals (pun intended) for this mainstream designer.

Well you thought wrong, indies.

I despise his shoes. At 800 bucks a pop, these are the most uncomfortable, over-priced bunion makers you can find. The only thing that separates them from the rest of the expensive footwear out there is their red bottom (which you can paint on yourself if you’re really that desperate for attention).

Don’t get me wrong, the man is a genius, very intelligent and super polite. So, I have nothing to say against the designer, just his shoes.

At Fashion Indie, we like to give praise to all those amazing indie designers doing their thing and competing with the big boys. There are soo many shoe designers out there who actually “love” women and try to create shoes that comfort them, not torture them, so why would any sane person spend money on a pair of mary janes that looks like every other mary jane?  Especially if said mary janes are designed to cause more pain than pleasure.

Christian Louboutin is over and out. If you still buy these/love these/need every pair or pray for the day when you can afford them, you are an idiot. The shoes are uncomfortable, overpriced and people who wear them look like they are desperate for attention (we all know you spent a lot on them and that doesn’t make you cool). If you insist on buying a pair keep in mind that the look is already over. The red sole is over, hell even Martha Stewart is painting hers black, and since that was the only thing that made Christians different, it’s only a matter of time before the collection suffers and prices go down in our pre-recession era.

Skip the Louboutins. We know we will.

You are so right.  Thank you for writing this.  These shoes really jack your feet up.  What a waste of money…could have  done something better with the $$$ I ended up spending.  Besides, look at the type of ppl wearing and sweating over his shoes!  That says enuf.

I don’t know, I’m really undecided. To a degree, I agree with you because the ubiquitous shoe and red sole are overexposed. On the other hand, some of his shoes are absolute stunning works of art. Yes, they are hard to walk in and terribly uncomfortable. Such is art. I didn’t have the chance to see the exhibit showcasing his work at FIT, but I think the fact that there was an exhibit at all is testament to the fact that his shoes are more than just crafted leather – they are wearable art, worthy of being on display. They are more a treat for the eyes than for the feet.

    • Weesie says:

there was an exhibit because the brand happens to be the hot brand of the moment and FIT wanted the publicity. Come on, not all the shoes look all that great and if you really look, all they have is ONE style now…that platform. over and over and over and over again!

  5. Kristen May says:

I’m an idiot, I wish I was an idiot cause then I could afford like half a pair. I can’t even afford one part of a pair. But I wish I could.
